20th anniversary rumors
Posted by Sandy
During his keynote address at Macworld, Apple CEO Steve Jobs noted that the original Macintosh computer was introduced on January 24, 1984.
Although pre-show speculation had focused on rumors of a $99 iPod, many in the Macworld crowd expected that Jobs would conclude the keynote by introducing "one more thing" -- a new product related to the Mac's 20th anniversary.
It didn't happen. After acknowledging the anniversary, Jobs realigned expectations by promising that "incredible new products" would be released throughout the year.
This week, the question on the minds of many Mac fans is, "Will Apple announce any 'incredible new products' this week, to mark the 20th anniversary?"
So far, only MacOS Rumors is predicting specific hardware: a "20th Anniversary iMac" with a G5 processor inside. (This would echo the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh that was released in 1997 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Apple.
Mac fans, I'm disappointed in you. Where are the crazy Apple rumors? (Besides here, I mean.)

The iMac is due a refresh even though the design is still contemporary (and unlike anything else out there). But the 20th anniversary is the ideal time to reveal iMac3.
I think the pearly white look will be replaced by an anodized finish (not perforated) that's less hemi-spherical and with an obvious, styled air intake scoop. Addition of some rubberized surfaces would provide detail and the beastie will pack a 1.6 GHz G5 at the top end. Add a built-in camera to the screen and a price that's too high (cos that's what early adopters are willing to pay while Apple ramps up). Oh, and there'll be a special 20th anniversary edition theme with inlaid mahogany for an extra $100..... :-)
