Switch: Lost Episodes

switch-lostepisodes.jpgApple's 2002 Switch campaign told the stories of real people who had switched from PCs to the Macintosh. The campaign featured TV ads directed by documentary filmmaker Errol Morris.

Before switching took a back seat to iPods, the campaign introduced several memorable Real People, including Janie Porche ("I saved Christmas"), Sarah Whistler ("It was a horrid little machine"), Gianni Jacklone ("Apple is da bomb"), and Ellen Feiss ("Hey, don't bogart that PowerBook!").

Now Errol Morris has posted some of the ads that didn't make it to air.

There are some famous names among the lost switchers, including Daniel Clowes, Will Ferrell, and Yo-Yo Ma

In most cases, you easily can guess why the ad was rejected. Christopher Guest mentions iMovie, then rambles. Rick Rosner admits that he's too cheap to buy a Mac (which, unfortunately, highlights the higher price of Macs). Chris Kasick complains that using a computer is, like hard, but Apple's computers are pretty, and that's the future.

My favourite lost switcher is Andrea Keller, who talks about "Iron Curtain" dialogue boxes. Too bad she went on to say her Mac is "like a pet or a friend."

Thanks to Leander for the link.

the ads are no longer online. All trace of them has been wiped from Errol Morris' site. (cue Twilight Zone theme...)

Yeah, just a few days ago, they were available. It seems they were pulled off. Now they just have a Donald Trump video. And no one wants to see him.
